The clip was shown several times on Australian TV in 2004, and will be included in the upcoming US indie video compilation No Parachute.
This video started life as a short musical sequence for the Short Poppy Syndrome documentary, cobbled together from footage of the Cannanes rehearsing, together with some of the band’s old home movies. On a whim we decided to extend the sequence to cover the entire song and pretty soon it was starting to look like a proper music video.
Thinking we might get some TV airplay for the band, we realised we should probably make a version including some footage of Explosion Robinson, who collaborated on the track, so we emailed him and asked him to do some filming of himself in his studio in New York.
A few weeks later a tape arrived in the mail.
We edited it into the clip, dubbed off a copy and sent it to ABC-TV’s Rage, thinking they might play it once at 4am.
However, it seems they were rather taken with the clip’s naive charm, and played it for four weeks running, starting out in the coveted opening slot!
